Levott Quick Hits from April 14th-18th

    Friday, April 18th: Quick Hits

Google Sparks Another Rally - Intel and IBM have beat on earning or at least guided up over the last couple days and now it is Google’s turn to skyrocket. The stock ended up $89.87 per share (+19.99%) closing at 539.41. I guess the growth fears were overdone.

One headline caught my eye on Yahoo yesterday ‘350 Lawyers Complicate Polygamist Custody Case’. Have 350 Lawyers ever simplified things?

Stocks to Watch - With the Google earnings outperformance last night, stocks started up and continued the rest of the day. These stocks reported earnings today Citigroup(C), Honeywell(HON), Schlumberger(SLB) and Caterpillar(CAT).

    Thursday, April 17th: Quick Hits

IBM's Turn - Intel started the rally yesterday and IBM tried today, but it looks like we will end up about square for the day. IBM reported yesterday that profits increased 26% and revenue went up 11%. They also said they feel good about the rest of the year. Google will report after the bell today.

Stocks to Watch - Big day today for earnings and here are a few of interest PFE, GOOG, UTX, BK and MER.

    Wednesday, April 16th: Quick Hits

Intel Outlook Bright - Intel Outlook Bright - Intel reported what analysts were expecting for the first quarter but the outlook for the rest of the year has the stock off and running in afterhours trading. Can this news boost the market’s open this morning? There was good news from the rails as CSX beat estimates when it reported after the bell on Tuesday. There are plenty of earnings coming out today including Big Blue, so let the games begin.

Stocks to Watch - Here are some stocks of interest reporting earnings today IBM, JPM, KO, WFC and ABT.

    Tuesday, April 15th: Quick Hits

Death and Taxes - Mr. Grim, I hope, is not due to make a house call anytime soon, but taxes are due today. This traditional past-time is not something anybody looks forward to, but I guess is necessary to make this country function. If you own shares of Crocs (CROX), you may think the Grim Reaper has visited when you check out the stock price after it opens. They lowered their forecast for the first quarter after the close on Monday and got hammered in after hours trading. At last check, they were down $5.19 almost 30%.

Stocks to Watch - Here are some stocks of interest reporting earnings today JNJ, INTC, USB, CSX and NTRS.

    Monday, April 14th: Quick Hits

The Unusual Turns Common - There were some strange occurrences that started on Friday morning and continued through the weekend. The first couple of unusual items crushed the stock market. GE missed its earning and the stock dropped around 12%, which it had not done since 1987. The consumer confidence index hit a 26 year low and this along with the GE news sent the DOW down just over 256 points. That however was not the end of Friday’s strangeness; Fred Couples miss the cut by one stroke in the Masters for the first time in 23 years. He is now tied with Gary Player with the longest streak until Tiger eventually breaks this. The Masters has also not had a South African put that green jacket on in 30 years since, you guessed it, Gary Player won it back in 1978. Trevor Immelman won the Masters Sunday and he was the first person to lead or share the lead wire to wire in 28 years. These are strange days indeed and let us see what this week brings.

Stocks to Watch - It looks like Wachovia (WB) is getting 7 billion in cash, which is just the latest bank to get a cash infusion. Delta (DAL) and Northwest (NWA) appear to be finally getting together after much speculation over the last couple weeks.
